COMMENTS FROM READERS:
"I just want to drop you a line and tell that I am very grateful for Saris: An Illustrated Guide to the Indian Art of Draping. It is a godsend. I could find no other book nearly half as through as yours. I was on pins and needles waiting for it to arrive, and it was everything I hoped it could be."

"Your book arrived this week and
I enjoyed reading all of the text. All of your instructions were
very clear and your line drawings with the semitransparent bodies
helped a great deal to see how the drape is managed behind (around,
under, through) the legs and waist. "

"I bought your sari book a few weeks
ago and I just wanted to tell you how remarkable and informative
it is. I also wanted to say congratulations on your article that
was published in the June issue of Hinduism
Today. I have tried several of the beautiful drape styles
and found most of them easy to wear thanks to your detailed instructions."

"I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed your book on the Indian art of Draping. The instructions were clear and I loved the person information that you included regarding some of the women who showed you how to do their drape. My boyfriend is a school teacher who teaches a education unit on India. He always brings in fabric to do the Nivi drape with the girls when he teaches that unit. Now the girls will have more choices of drapes and the boys won't have to feel left out as we can drape them in dhotis and vestis. Thank you so much for your valuable work and information."
Elizabeth Howard
"As an interested reader of your
text, one who enjoys the physical details of sewing clothing,
I thoroughly enjoy reading how each of the drapes is created.
It is well written and interesting, quite a puzzle to figure out
how each look is created."

"The extent of your research is
very impressive; this really makes the book for me. I mean, it's
wonderful to learn the draping styles, but it's fascinating and
enriching to learn about the culture and history that lies under
the surface. What a satisfying accomplishment to know that you
have preserved a part of history that might otherwise have been
lost forever."
Ruth Raymond
"Thought you would be happy to know
that our monastery itself is making use of your draping book.
Every day our Gurudeva teaches us the Manipuri style of dance
and he was looking for a style of costume we could wear. So the
other day we started learning how to tie the chettiar style dhoti.
It looks very good and is easy to move around in."
Tyagi Saravananathaswami
"I am amazed, how many different
ways of draping there are. It really is an art for itself and
I wonder how the women manage draping all by themselves."
Gaby Cusak
"I must say that it is an absolute
joy to thumb through your book, but as you said, 'practice makes
perfect'."

"While browsing through the web
on Saree's I found your site. I was really awestruck with the
kind of work you've done. It's just amazing! I can imagine the
amount of effort you've put in this kind of research. For so many
years, I have been fascinated by Saree. I was just thrilled to
see your work on the web. It's life time work. The future generations
would undoubtedly be benefited by your work Unfortunately the
current generation of women in Indian cities seem to adopt churidars
and other Indian dresses or western dresses. I am fan of sarees."

"I have the book (WOW!). A week ago I wore the Flower Sellers for a whole weekend. I was happier when I figured out to bring a fold up from behind between the legs. Before that I used a petticoat for modesty, but that was way too bulky. Turns out that I was already doing variations on the Nivi that I found in your book. They were the logical thing to do...I find your drawings very intuitive, and have little trouble figuring them out."
Marsha McLean
"I can honestly say that your book is one I wished I had written. I have been to India five times (and am currently planning another) and Sri Lanka twice and have been fascinated with saris since the first trip to Sri Lanka in l985. I love saris and the cloth from which they are made. I have bought many. I try to wear them, but feel I lack the grace of Indian women.
I do plan to try some of the new drapes. I brought the book home last night and read the whole thing trying to visualize the drape. I was exhausted when I finished. I have become comfortable in a draped skirt style learned
in Nagaland, but it is a bit of a cheat - with a couple of darts.
I have had the experience of riding along in India seeing a different drape, but upon inquiry have been unable to get a real answer to the question: How many styles are there? Pushing, I have gotten the answer that there aremaybe two or three with a few variations. Now you have answered the question to my satisfaction. On my next trip, I plan to carry the book -and be a "sari-watcher."
I think you have done of service beyond most of capturing the culture and essence of India. Thanx."
